Pointillism
ART MOVEMENT • LATE 19TH CENTURY
Pointillism emerged from Impressionism as a technique where small, distinct dots of pure colour are applied in patterns to form an image. From a distance, these marks visually merge into light, form, and atmosphere.
Rather than mixing pigments, the eye itself completes the image - creating a shimmering optical experience built from countless points of colour.
Developed by Georges Seurat and Paul Signac, it explores how perception participates in creating visual form.
