A MEDITATIVE JOURNEY

What is Reflective Mantra Art?

A unique meditative practice in which sacred mantra is written thousands of times over a painting,
until the image breathes with divine presence.

THE PRACTICE EXPLAINED

A term coined to describe a style of art that has evolved over many years.

After painting an image, which is usually a reflection of a spiritual nature, I use calligraphy to write the mantra waheguru in Punjabi (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ) all over the image as a meditation.

The sentiment behind this is that all creation, every molecule and particle has God’s Presence embodied in it. This hints at the illusionary nature of our world and at the same time implies that the spirit surrounds us.

Waheguru - Pronounced “Wah-hay-guroo”. Wah means Infinite, hay means Thou, and Guru means the Higher Self (the Divine Teacher within you).

It is my sincere hope that I am able to translate emotions into art so that it creates a place where fellow travellers pause for a moment to reflect on the message.

Vibrant oil pastels blend beautifully to provide just the right colourful palette for the meditative mantra. The resulting effect resembles Pointillism, the artistic movement developed in 1886, in which small, distinct dots of pure colour are applied in patterns to form images.

HOW EACH WORK IS MADE

The image takes shape

Each work begins with a painting, usually a reflection of a spiritual nature. The image serves as the foundation for the meditative mantra that follows.

Oil pastels lay the ground

Vibrant oil pastels blend beautifully to create the colourful foundation of each artwork. The resulting palette provides the perfect backdrop for the meditative mantra.

The meditation begins

Once the painting is complete, the writing of ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ begins. Written freehand, each mantra is carefully placed across the image as a form of meditation.

Thousands of handwritten mantras

Depending on size, each artwork contains between 500 and over 20,000 individually handwritten ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ's, forming the image through thousands of meditative marks.

An invitation to reflect

The finished artwork is offered with the hope that it becomes a place where fellow travellers may pause, reflect, and connect with the deeper message within.

Spirit of the Khalsa

Cultivated in stillness, silence and solitude The intense gaze both outwards and inwards Ever watchful, aware of worldly distractions Yet deeply grounded in the omnipresence The Majestic Spirit of the Khalsa roars silently!

Masterful, courageous, strong, Powerful, royal, unique, passionate With a golden noble inside Expressing magic within The Majestic Spirit of the Khalsa roars silently!

“All creation, every molecule and particle,
has God's Presence embodied in it.
The mantra makes visible what is already invisibly true.”

A CONVERSATION ACROSS CENTURIES

Where Pointillism meets sacred mantra

Pointillism

ART MOVEMENT • LATE 19TH CENTURY

Pointillism emerged from Impressionism as a technique where small, distinct dots of pure colour are applied in patterns to form an image. From a distance, these marks visually merge into light, form, and atmosphere.

Rather than mixing pigments, the eye itself completes the image - creating a shimmering optical experience built from countless points of colour.

Developed by Georges Seurat and Paul Signac, it explores how perception participates in creating visual form.

REFLECTIVE MANTRA ART

A LIVING MEDITATIVE PRACTICE

Reflective Mantra Art builds on a similar visual principle, transforming it into a contemplative practice. Instead of pigment, the surface is formed through thousands of handwritten repetitions of the sacred mantra Waheguru (ਵਾਹਿਗੁਰੂ).

Each mark is intentional - a moment of remembrance written in stillness. Like Pointillism, these syllables come together from a distance to form image, light, and depth. But the purpose is different: not only to be seen, but to be felt.

This practice sees all creation as carrying Divine presence. Each painting becomes a quiet field where form and mantra meet in presence.

A Quiet Invitation

Bring a painting into your space

Each original painting begins with remembrance, thousands of handwritten repetitions of Waheguru gradually revealing an image through patience, devotion, and prayer.
